Responding to changing standards of care in both surgical sterilization and the management of ectopic pregnancy, D N Mehra and DR M Wesea, faculty from the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology created a new CPD program to teach rural ESS FPs these skills.
After successful course completion, these physicians will pursue a local mentorship in their region with a pathway to independent practice in these new surgical skills. This CPD program was accredited by the CFPC for three Mainpro+ credits per hour.
This course was supported as a proof of concept trial of an innovative model for CPD for rural ESSFP with a $7,500 grant from BC’s Rural Education Action Plan (REAP). The leadership and administrative support for the program was provided by the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc).
